JGJ had been writing music since his youth. Initially only as a variety from his daily professional work,
but later also as a daily activity.
His first songs

Unfortunately, only some lyrics and chord progressions remain from the first songs that JGJ wrote.
Something that may have been because he only played the guitar at the time and didn't need anything more.
Allein staon - JGJ

JGJ-AlleinStaon.mp3
This is perhaps one of the few songs from those early days that has survived, because JGJ continued to play the song later on.
He wrote this song in the mid-seventies, but this recording is from the beginning of this century.
It is the very first song ever that he sang himself.
The song was originally written for guitar, but in this production JGJ only used keyboard instruments and a drum machine.
The entire recording was done with the latest PC version of the 'Logic' program from the German company Emagic, before Emagic was bought by Apple.

Traditional party music

In the mid-1980s, JGJ made a small trip into party music and schlagers.
During this period he wrote about 50 songs, several of which were released on record or CD.
Zoë is ut laeve (Mooder Bloom...) - Petra en Marij

PetraEnMarij-ZoeIsUtLaeve.mp3
One of his first songs in this genre became a big hit in his home region. The record with this song sold several ten thousand times.
JGJ co-wrote this song with H. Winter in the summer of 1982 and it has been played ever since.
The song has also been covered several times,
where the cover of Mooder Hellup/Minse Kinder stood out positively because of the personal touch they gave it.

Laot gaon, laot gaon - Gé van Beek

GeVanBeek-LaotGaonLaotGaon.mp3
Initially, JGJ was only asked to write out a song from Gé van Beek that he had sung on cassette-tape .
Because the song's lyrics radiated so much joy, while this was not reflected in the original melody,
JGJ decided to change the melody to better suit the lyrics. Many people greatly appreciated this.
This song was written for the association 'De Wien' and was released on an EP a little later.

De pluuj - Marlie Hanraths

MarlieHanraths-DePluuj.mp3
This song was intended for the so-called Farmer's Wedding,
a festival where the entire city of Venlo dresses up in historical farmer's clothing.
The song is therefore interspersed with all kinds of vegetables and the like, which hang from the unfolded umbrellas (pluuj's) that female characters carry with them.
The song was written by JGJ together with H. Winter in the mid-80s and it was probably one of the last records,
as shortly afterwards only CDs were released.

Dreej daag lang de auge aope - Resie Wolters

Resie-DreejDaagLangDeAugeAope.mp3
This song for the Blerick carnival is about the problem of enjoying those three days as much and for as long as possible.
because it would be a shame if you wasted most of your time sleeping.
That's why the singer tries to keep her eyes open as long as possible, even if only in her dreams.
The song was written by JGJ together with Nol Peters in the mid-1980s and appeared on the Wortelepin album that year.

Laevesmedisien - Petra en Marij

PetraEnMarij-Laevesmedisien.mp3
After the scuce of Zoë is ut laeve, this song became the successor for the two singers.
In this particular song their beautiful two-part harmony comes to the fore beautifully.
The song was written a year after the previous song by JGJ and H. Winter and released on record shortly afterwards.

Electro pop

In the second half of the 80's, synthesizer and electronic music became very popular.
Something that JGJ piggybacked on, because he also switched increasingly to these types of keyboard instruments.
When it also became fashionable to sing in the Dutch language, JGJ also went along with it.
He embraced this 'Nederpop' music right from the start and was more than happy to combine this with electronic music.
Winnen of Verliezen - JGJ

JGJ-WinnenOfVerliezen.mp3
This song, written by JGJ in the mid-80s, starts out as pure rock but gradually evolves into a so-called "wall of sound."
It's clearly symphonic rock, one of JGJ's favorite genres.
Several people tried to make the song their own, but JGJ felt that none of them did justice to his song.
JGJ therefore adapted and re-recorded the arrangement of this song at the beginning of this century,
playing all the instruments himself.
He even did the vocals, although it took a lot of effort to get them truly in tune.

Ik wil leven - Shanou

IkWilLeven-Shanou.mp3
In the second half of the 1980s, JGJ, together with Fer Peters, recorded some demo songs of JGJ's with the vocal duo Shanou.
Unfortunately, a copy of this was found on an old cassette more than 35 years later, what didn't improve its quality.
Unfortunately, this demo song is the only (original) number from the recordings that was still in reasonable condition.
JGJ and Fer recorded the songs together with only one synthesizer/keyboard (Roland Juno 60)
and a simple drum machine in the then AMR 8-track studio in Venlo-Blerick.
The vocal duo Shanou then sang the lyrics, after which JGJ made the final mix.

Vluchten (waar wil je heen) - Shanou

Vluchten-Shanou.mp3
This song is from the same session as 'Ik wil leven' above. It was also on the found cassette with demo songs.
Thanks to A.I., some parts of the song could be split off and polished separately, which also saved this song.
After this, JGJ remixed the polished parts with the old recordings.
This means that this song can also be listened to here, as it was heard almost 40 years ago.

Houvast - Shanou

Houvast-Shanou.mp3
This rock song also comes from the same session as the two above and was also on that found cassette with demo songs.
However, the song on the cassette was so damaged that only the vocals could be reasonably saved with A.I.
JGJ has therefore created a completely new arrangement (with elements from the original recording) and recently re-recorded it on his own.
He then remixed this with Shanou's (original) vocals, so that the song can still be heard here, albeit in a new version.
So, the song's vocals still date from the aforementioned session, but not after being polished up as much as possible.
However, the song became a bit shorter, as the vocals were unusable in some places and impossible to retouch.
Fortunately, this isn't audible, as it's been neatly resolved in this new recording.

Vrij - Ray Drossaert

Vrij(JGJ)-RayDrossaert.mp3
This song by JGJ has had different lyrics and titles, but never got beyond some rehearsals.
Only after Ray recorded this song as an instrumental version with a southern twist, it became a fresh and cheerful song.
It has also regained its original and first title here.

Niet schieten - JGJ

JGJ-NietSchieten.mp3
JGJ wrote this song in 20 minutes while he was traveling home on the train from Eindhoven.
It may have been polished up a bit afterwards, but the big picture has never changed.
JGJ always wanted to add the vocals to it, but it has not happened in recent years,
mainly because his 'Logic' software no longer worked on his later PCs.
That's why this song is only available here as an instrumental version.
Hopefully, a full version (including vocals) will be released someday, which will then be available here.

Fijn bij jou - JGJ

JGJ-FijnBijJou.mp3
Somewhat inspired by the increasingly popular reggae music in the Netherlands in the eighties, JGJ started working on this song at that time.
Unfortunately (or should we say 'fortunately') the song became more and more immersed in his own style over time.
Twenty years later (at the beginning of this century), JGJ wrote the piano arrangement for it,
which also formed the basis for the instrumental version you can listen to here.
Because the song was recorded with the music program 'Logic', which unfortunately no longer works on later PCs, it remained in this state for a very long time.
Again, twenty years later (in the mid-2020s), JGJ switched to the 'Cubase Pro' program and picked up this song again.
Currently, work is underway to complete the song (including vocals and a more extensive arrangement).
For now, the song is only available here as an instrumental (basic) version, but with the promise
to replace it with the final track once it's fully finished.
