From his youth, JGJ wrote music as a change of pace from his studies and (later) from his daily professional activities.
Traditional party music and schlagers
In the mid-1980s, JGJ made a small trip into party music and schlagers. During this period he wrote about 50 songs, several of which were released on record or CD.
Zoë is ut laeve (Mooder Bloom...) - Petra en Marij
This is one of his first songs in this genre. It became a big hit in the region and is still frequently played now, more than 40 years later.

Rock music and Electro pop
JGJ started out with rock music, but when synthesizer and electronic music became popular in the mid-1980s, JGJ was eager to ride the wave. When it also became fashionable to sing in the Dutch language, he loved to combine this with electronic music.
Winnen of Verliezen - JGJ
JGJ wrote this song in the mid-1980s. Here you can hear it as he slightly modified it twenty years later, playing all the instruments himself and even singing the vocals.
